A wireless thermostat is a digital device that can tell you the temperature of its surroundings. It does this using electronic sensors and can communicate with your new boiler installation to provide the ideal room temperature for yourself. The thermostats can keep the room within less than one degree of the preset temperature.

A smart thermostat will work without WiFi. But, the functionality will be limited to basic heating and cooling control. So, during your new boiler installation it may be in your best interest to establish a secure, reliable Internet connection for your smart thermostat.

A smart thermostat can learn and make decisions for you. A smart thermostat, just like a Wi-Fi thermostat, can be controlled by a connected device, such as your cell phone, via an app. Wi-Fi thermostats, however, don't have the ability to learn from your usage.

The average room temperature is typically around 20°C. This is a good ambient temperature to aim for, but it is important to bear in mind that different rooms will need to be heated to specific temperatures.

We would not advise putting the thermostat in the coldest room as this would not be a true reflection of the temperature of the rest of the house. If the thermostat senses cold, it will think that your entire home is just as cold. So it will tell your newly installed boiler to work harder which could increase your heating costs.

The best place for your thermostat is on an interior wall, away from direct sunlight, air vents, your kitchen, hallways, windows and doors. Ideally, it should be placed toward the centre of your home.

According to experts at the Energy Saving Trust, the idea it's cheaper to leave the heating on low all day is a myth. The Energy Saving Trust says if you're keeping the heating on all day you're losing energy all day, so it's better to heat your home only when you need it.
